A short history
The name “Cherry Creek” was given to the area by the Arapaho Indians, who discovered chokecherries all along the creek. The whole area was a buffalo hunting ground for the Arapaho people.
By the mid-1800s, the Smoky Hill Trail became the main route from the Missouri River to Denver during the gold rush.
After the discovery of gold, the area boomed. Today, it’s home to over 11,500 people, and the population continues to grow each year.
